Using 550 Cord For Various Hobbies and Projects

Creativity is limitless. Limits of the imagination are boundaries to 550 cord projects. A parachute cord, or paracord, referred to at times simply as the cord, is one of six that was introduced by the US Military through World War II. Several projects using 550 cord now exist. The most well known of these is the space shuttle mission to execute repairs on the Hubble Space Telescope. Individuals who are creative can do a number of functional things with this cord, such as making key chains, dog leashes, and jewelry.
The cord is a type III cord, paracord that is manufactured from interlocking fibers that are situated inside a sheath of nylon. Using military specifications, the cord has a breaking strength of 550 pounds. Using this figure is how the name was devised. When the cord became popular with civilians, the name travelled with it. The fibers are separated to make 550 projects that use thin string such as sewing and tying fishing flies.
Shrink the cord by soaking in hot water and then wait for the cord to dry completely. This is to prevent stretching and distortion when used on a daily basis. The C Clamp is secured to the edge of a table. Four colored cords are then attached to the hook or snap. Begin braiding these cords until the desired length of the leash is reached, and place one of the clamps on the end. One cord should be left free to form the hand hold. Once the braiding is complete, use the wood burning tool to shear off the loose ends of the cords.
